The Hair Loss Pill Actually Stops You From Losing You Hair If you took a hair loss pill everyday you would be almost assured of maintaining a full cover of hair. The pill is called propecia, and it is a result of scientific serendipity, which is one way of saying that it is a lucky, accidental consequence. Over 20 years ago, Merck Pharmaceuticals released a drug called proscar to the public. Proscar was accredited for the treatment of Benign Prostate Hyperplasia. The active ingredient in proscar is 5mg of finasteride. The pill was taken daily by a group of men that were more than sixty, and who suffered from the condition, BPH. Finasteride was not only found to stop the formation of prostate cancer, but was also found to encourage hair growth, and so the hair loss pill was born. Further testing by Merck has shown that the minimum effective quantity of finasteride was 1mg. Overall, a two year test conducted on over one thousand subjects showed that more than 80 percent of them maintained, or in fact, increased their hair mass from the neckline to the forehead. This original test started over a decade ago, and it was reported that the original test subjects actually maintained those successful results for 4 years after the trial was completed. The 1mg of finasteride was manufactured under the brand name, Propecia. A further consequence of taking propecia, is that it alters the levels of testosterone in the body, and hence is available only on prescription. The opinion of a physician should be sought and the prescribed dosage followed explicitly. Hormonal balances can be delicate and maintaining a regular dose helps to guarantee stability. The shedding of hair might not be a sign that you should begin taking the hair loss pill straight away. There is a normal three stage process of hair loss and renewal that at times, can be literally shocked into a premature hair loss stage. This seemingly spontaneous shedding, also known as Telegen Effluvium, is not a permanent condition and generally leads to replacement hair growth. Propecia treatment is a very gradual procedure and demands patience on the part of the user. One should not anticipate results for about three months, with common regrowth not appearing until the eighth month. Optimum results do not appear until at least one year after the beginning of the treatment. Other Articles
